Fish studies have been performed. Results show that some species no longer in Lake Mahopac such as Yellow Perch and other species. A decline in Largemouth bass has been evident once there are no weeds left for cover, they try to find other structures to hide. The decline loss of Yellow Perch is believed to be from lack of weeds where they would lay eggs and the Alewife (Bait fish) eating the eggs.
Some of the studies that lead to these results can be found in the Fish Studies.
