Fish Survey 2020

Fish survey conducted in fall of 2020
Summary on Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass
The largemouth and smallmouth bass populations are in relatively good shape and should continue to provide ample fishing opportunities. As long as vegetation coverage remains stable, the current fishing can be sustained and a suitable amount of prey should be available for forage. Continued monitoring of the largemouth bass population should be the primary focus of the Lake Mahopac Park District’s Fish Management efforts at this time. The fish communities should be monitored frequently, every 4 years for all species and every other year for gamefish (largemouth and smallmouth bass). This will allow the Lake Mahopac Park District to keep a close eye on the game fish populations and to detect changes in abundance, size structure, and relative weight.
